With an approximate circumference of 7.5 km, this utterly tranquil lake is surrounded with natural forests of Yezo spruce, Sakhalin fir and others.
It is considered to have been formed by the natural damming of a gorge due to the landslide about 100,000 years ago.
We visited the area to cover the lake in the middle of June. It was when the long winter was over at last, and the scenery was just changing rapidly from spring to summer.
Before dawn, as we passed through the deep forest, our eyes were met with the lake with the blue morning fog in the air. It was awesome, just being worth to be called a secret lake.
